A lifeguard can be used to symbolize a “sink or swim” situation. For example, freelancers can sacrifice job security for freedom. They either make it or not, sink or swim.
Being a lifeguard in a dream can mean you play the role of savior, or see yourself that way. Lifeguards save people from drowning, and figuratively, drowning can mean overwhelmed by emotions or circumstances. Saving someone from drowning can be a way of expressing a fantasy of being the hero. It is common for young men to fantasize about saving the person who is their crush or love interest.

Trying to save a suicidal man
There was a man standing on the edge of the dock very distressed. Someone went up to him to ask if he was ok and to stand back. He jumped in.
One person. Jumped in to help. Then I ran down to the dock and jumped in. The first few times I was just feeling about. Then I managed to open my eyes. There was a bright light coming from a tv. He was standing at the bottom of the sea. I tried to grab his hand and swim up with him but he was too heavy and only got half way before having to let go and save enough air for me to get up and get more help. When I asked people to call the life guards because he was still alive I just needed more help. Everyone simply ignored me and laughed. We had to drive away. I knew he was still alive.
This dream has disturbed me. I understand some of it.

Any ideas on this very strange dream?
This dream has me scratching my head.
In my dream it was summer time and I stopped by a new pool. When I arrived a lot of people were just hanging out and playing under water. They were all human but were able to breathe under water. The water was very clear and it looked almost cartoonish, but still real. The drop into the water was very long and deep and the life guard told me that I needed to jump at a certain angle otherwise I'd hit a metal pole and die.
I left the pool and the roads were covered in ice and snow, but it was melting. Nothing was slippery and I began thinking about the side roads and they are still icy so I can't drive in this weather.
I went to my high school. I was looking for something in particular and knew if I got caught I would be in trouble. I knew the exact route to take except I took the wrong one. There was a navy Sargent in a locked room with a bunch of people. It was like he was monitoring prisoners.
I turned around and walked up a different stairway. This led to where I wanted to be and nobody was allowed to use that hall so I knew I wouldn't be caught. One of my former classmates was going the same way.
I went back to the pool and a bunch of people were there getting ready to jump in. The metal wasn't there from before and everyone was waiting for someone else to get in. One girl said, "I'll go first!" She jumped but the pool had no water and she died. It looked like it was a 100ft drop to the bottom. The platform we were standing on was breaking. Mine was fine but other people were struggling to get off. One girl broke from her ankles and fell into the pool. I looked at the platform and her feet were still there.
I left for my new girlfriends house. Her parents were there and I learned that she was in 3rd grade. But she was way too old to still be in 3rd grade. I woke up while doing the math.

Dream of drowning and tried to contact the lifeguard
I was swimming in a pool, at nightime. I was reaching for something in the pool and felt very peaceful. I could see everything without my goggles. Suddenly, I realize that I'm standing on the side of the pool, watching my body drowning. I try to contact the lifeguard, screaming, but she doesn't hear me. Time is running out, and nobody can hear or feel me, and my body is at the bottom of the pool.

Two friends die then I got a huge parking ticket.
Just woken up from this one. It was so real.
I went to a bar for drinks with a few friends. I drove to the bar and parked my car in a multi storey car park. After he drinks I was walking back to the car park with two friends. They were rushing and stressing that they were going to miss the last train home. I kept offering to drive them home but they ignored my offer (didn't seem to hear it) and were rushing.
Then all of a sudden I heard one of them say "Come on \[my name\] quickly" and I looked up to see both of them run up to the river and jump in. I got the impression they thought jumping in the river would help them get home which was bizarre. This is a dangerous thing to do so I was concerned and ran to the face and saw their bodies floating in the river. I couldn't jump in as it was two dangerous. Then I saw two lifeguards swimming towards the bodies to pull them out. Another lifeguards on land told me to go home.
I went back to the car park to get my car and realised that I should have paid upon arrival whereas I thought I could pay when I left. I went into the office and spoke to the lady to explain I was mistaken and she came across as very shocked that I didn't realise how the system worked. She seemed angry. She told me to fill out a form which I did. When I handed the form back she questioned the time I had put down. When I looked I saw I had miswritten the time and I told her this. She got a bit of paper and put it on the counter. I thought it was going to be a new form to fill out but when I looked it was a list of nearby opticians.....so she was being ice cold and mocking me. There was a sign behind the counter saying maximum fine was £1,000 and I had the feeling I was going to get the maximum fine and the woman was being so cold towards me.
I woke up at that point and I don't recall ever being so relieved to wake up from a dream before. I was literally in a cold sweat and shivering a bit. Even though the circumstances of the dream were bizarre it seemed real.

Married and polygamist and my toe fell off
I (25F) had a dream that I married one of my parents friends, or agreed to marry him. Everyone was really happy, my parents and all of their friends. They approved. I was walking around this nice apartment I would be living in being shown around. The man and HIS WIFE explained to me that I couldn’t go downstairs to the basement because it’s their sports room.
I went to the pool, which was kind of a public pool in the same apartment building, and I was sitting in the ledge when I realized that it was weird that that guy had a wife. And then I remembered that he had TWO wives. Both wedding photos flashed in my mind. And I thought it would be a good way to get out of it, to say that I hadn’t really thought about being one of three wives. Then I jumped in the pool and immediately knew something was wrong.
I pulled up on the ledge and picked up my foot and in my sock (don’t know why id swim in a sock) was my toe. My ring toe. So I yelled and said my toe fell of and that we should call an ambulance.
Everyone said various statements about toes falling off and how sometimes it happens while the lifeguard was supposed to be calling. She said “can anyone drive her to the hospital?” The toe didn’t hurt but I was freaked out.
We all watched an infomercial of a man who said to call him if you have an emergency. But we didn’t really get the full number. The end
