What are possible meanings for dreams of apocalypses?

An apocalypse in a dream can be an exaggeration of “huge change” or “bad conflict.” People can have a personal apocalypse when their lives melt down, or some way of living or doing things can no longer be sustained. Forces have built up that threaten to explode. A dream apocalypse implies the need to examine your life and take action, or prepare for the inevitable.

An apocalypse can be an exaggerated way of describing the battles waged in life; for example, against a barrage of work. See: Fighting

The symbolism can tie in with the emotions it invokes, such as dread and panic. See: Emotions, Panic

Dreams about an apocalypse can cause people to fear that a worldwide calamity is about to happen, but this theme arises in dreams millions of times daily, and the world hasn’t ended. Therefore, it must be symbolism, and most likely a dream about the world ending means that something about your world is ending. You face a big change or loss.

Situations such as major illnesses, breakups, job losses, financial collapses, personal revelations, moving to new locations, and reaching milestones are known to spark apocalypse dreams. Usually the symbolism connects with something bad, but the symbolism is based on your feelings and perceptions. The thing you fear or dread is not necessarily bad. For example, apocalyptic themes are common in the dreams of teenagers facing the inevitability of adulthood.

The theme of apocalypse can capture thoughts related things people say they would do if the world were ending, things they wouldn’t do otherwise. For example, you finally tell your true feelings to that person you’re totally in love with, or tell your boss what an asshole he or she is. The idea is similar to what people say they would do if they only had X number of days to live. You finally do or say what you have always wanted. The truth comes out. Your true feelings show.

You can think of the symbolism of apocalypse as more than a small disaster, but less than Armageddon. For a rundown of how dreams use strength of symbolism, see: Disaster.

The most emotional dream you can remember?

The “End of the world” was coming at midnight. We didn’t really believe it. I decided to climb to the top of a mountain to watch the full moon that night. When I got to the mountain and started climbing, I started seeing a lot of other people had the same idea. They were tearing down the stairs that lead to the top of the mountain saying, “we aren’t gonna be needing these ever again” like everyone believed the apocalypse was really happening and somehow that’s when it dawned on me it was real. The world is ending at midnight. I realized I didn’t wanna be there, I wanted to be with Dustin. So I look down at my phone to call him. No service. The world is ending in 30 minutes and I can’t even say goodbye to my love. It was devastating...heartbreaking...and I started panicking. I wanted to die with him, not among strangers.

I woke up breathing hard, with tears streaming down my face, emotional, feeling raw...

“Are you still in hell?”

Just had this, freaked me out, and I’m coming on here while it’s still fresh. I am a devout Catholic, just as a precursor to this, so you have understanding

While it’s all fuzzy, the whole dream i was living alone in a small populated town, living near a gas station. My home was run down. Things were misplaced weirdly. My drum set was attached to the wall above another bed, and my fathers bed (wasn’t present in the dream) was in front of a fatback tv. The whole home felt like a really big shed

The whole dream had a vibe that SOMETHING was going to happen. If I didn’t lock the door, someone would break in, etc. and by something, I mean apocalypse like. I remember specifically being weirded out then the sky was bright sunny blue, with my clock saying 1 a.m. I knew something was wrong

A storm came, and somehow, it transitions into (what I now know) as a false awakening. My grandmother was in a chair beside my air mattress in the livingroom (yes that’s how I’m sleeping in our apartment rn lol), and she was trying to tell me about what she was doing this whole storm, etc.

She forgot what she was going to say, and I turned to her, seeing her stare into the ground/space, drawing a blank. Next thing I know, I turn back to face the ceiling. Idk if I closed my eyes again or not, but the blankets felt like sticky, thick mud around me. All over my face as if the mud was a skull-styled mask on my face. Then I uttered the words, in a deep dark voice, as if asking her, or me (idk)

“Are you still in hell?”

And that’s how I woke up. I didn’t open my eyes after that. That’s how I opened my eyes. I am really shook right now. To let you know, the scene where my gram and I are talking, it felt as if we were knowingly in purgatory, then that happened.

I hope to God this dream isn’t s sign of mental illness or anything of the sort 😂

A Quote from My Nightmare Last Night

"Life doesn't seem worth fighting for when monster dogs are disemboweling your friends in the hallway."

Feels like something Reddit should know. That's all!

(Context: Apocalypse style, a few people are running/hiding from huge metal plated dogs in a dark industrial/manufacturing setting. We run into a room with a heavy steel door that looks like a commercial freezer or something, "main character" drops this line)

A dream about an apocalypse bunker

In my dream, one of my old friends had an apocalypse bunker and he invited me there. While I was inside of the bunker the apocalypse happened. Or at least he told me it happened. I started to live in the bunker with 4 people and we were trying to get along while the friend who brought us there kept going in and out constantly, saying he needs to collect food for us, but he never let us go. One day I found an emergency exit that opens the gate and finally decided to go out for myself. When I turned the door knob, all the lights inside of the bunker started to turn on and off, then I woke up. Do you guys think this dream has any meaning?

Reoccurring zombie dream???

Through like years 7-10 always in May. I would dream that I was in my house with my family (my mother and father) and I would have this suspicion to always board the windows and doors up. Like I knew there was a zombie apocalypse coming our way. My parents never said anything about it and let me do it but the closest I've gotten Is one singular zombie ripping off a piece of the wood. And then I would wake up. I never got any action. I would always just wake up right when the zombies arrived lol. Any thoughts on this?
