What are possible meanings for dreams of pets?
In this entry we will discuss “pet” in the senses of “family pet” and “petting.”
Pets are associated with friendship and companionship, and qualities such as loyalty and trust. But the possibilities expand far and wide when you consider the characteristics and traits of your pet, what the animal means to you, and ways it can be used to tell a story.
Your pets can be used 10,000 ways to create symbolism, so covering all of them isn’t possible. However, the interpretation process begins the same way as with any dream character. What are your associations with the pet? What do you observe about its personality and character? Does the dream show any obvious discrepancies with reality, such as an animal presented as your pet when in reality you don’t recognize it? How does the character fit the story?
For example, a woman dreams that she’s told by her mother to poison her pet dog. It dramatizes a situation where her mom is actually pressuring her to marry her best friend. It’s going to poison the relationship with her friend, she fears. Her pet symbolizes her friend.
You can dream about your pets in relation to their care and well-being. In this way, it’s a lot like a parent dreaming about his or her children.
A pet can symbolize something you tend, something close to you, something you invest yourself into, something important that’s like a pet to you, such as a responsibility, long-term project, or endeavor. That’s a good possibility for symbolism when the pet in the dream isn’t one you own. Parents with young children, in particular, are known to dream about caring for young pets.
A pet can symbolize the feeling of being loved, wanted, and appreciated unconditionally. Pets don’t judge or play head games—unless, of course, it’s to get a treat! A pet can symbolize something you look forward to, such as when the best part of your day is taking your dog for a walk after work.
It can symbolize something that you train, that obeys, that loves you unconditionally, that can be expensive.
To be attacked hard by a pet can symbolize a dispute with a friend or damage to the relationship. It can symbolize betrayal or misplaced trust, or vulnerability to people close to you. For example, criticism from a friend can bite a lot harder than criticism from someone outside your inner circle. Because of the closeness you can have with pets, they’re great as symbols for close relationships such as friends. Dogs, in particular, are “man’s best friend.”
Pets can symbolize something you invest your energy into.
See the entries for Cat and Dog to get more ideas.
It’s common to dream about pets after they die, a normal part of grieving and healing. Our pets can be as close to us as family, and the death of a pet can be a hard loss. Two themes predominate in this sort of dream. One, you get a chance to reunite and enjoy time with your pet, like the good old days. It shows that the healing process is progressing as it should, and the memory of your beloved pet is alive inside you. Or two, something’s seriously wrong, like in a scene in the movie Pet Sematary. It shows that something is stuck in the healing process. You aren’t handling the grief, or you feel guilty because you think you didn’t do enough to save your pet. See: Seeing a dead relative
Petting a cat has associations with sexuality because cats are “felines,” which dreams can use to mean “female.” Further, they’re known as “pussies.” Cats are soft and generally responsive to being petted. It can symbolize giving pleasure. On the other hand, petting a cat is associated with indulging thoughts of revenge.
Petting is another word for “foreplay,” and dreams can depict it as petting an animal—especially when the animal responds by getting aroused, or the dream setting is sexually suggestive, such as a bedroom.
Other associations with petting involve calming someone down, making a personal connection, and showing care and concern. Petting a wolf, for example, can symbolize coming to terms with someone’s wild side, including your own, especially in regard to sexuality. Petting a wild animal like a wolf or gorilla can symbolize playing nice with someone who is potentially dangerous. Petting a whale can symbolize coming to terms with something overwhelming or too big to handle.

Disturbing dream - please help interpret

I Posted on a different subreddit but no one has given me any answers, so I’m posting here.
Hello, I’m a 20 year old female and last night I had a very very disturbing dream. Let me start off by saying this dream happened the day I tried to reconnect with my mother after cutting her off for over a year (thanks Forgiveness Therapy) , and I haven’t really spoken to my family in months, (not for lack of trying they just don’t contact me back). I used to live in the country where it was commonplace to see cows, livestock, and deer everywhere.
In this dream I was about 10. My mother, step father, sister(16 in dream), my brother (13 in dream) , and I were in my step dad’s old truck going to a carnival/ petting zoo sort of thing. Everything seemed to be okay, we were laughing and talking together like we were a family, until we got to our destination. We all got out of the truck and walked up to this barn, when we went inside I noticed a long-horned bull behind steel bars with its head sticking out from the bottom, it looked like it was dying and in search of water. I was concerned but everyone just kept walking and joking/laughing, it was like I was the only one who cared.
All of the sudden the scenery changed and we were walking down a paved road to get to our old house, I looked to the grass side of the road and a tractor had crashed into a barbed wire fence with cows surrounding the wreck, some of them dead. I remember being worried about the driver because he was nowhere to be seen. We kept walking, I looked to another pasture and saw dozens of horses, one was laying on the ground with metal chains wrapped around its feet and mouth, again I was freaking out a little but kept moving on. Finally when we came to a stop I saw one of the pasture owners working on the fence a couple yards away from the horses. I quickly ran up to her while my family stayed behind, heading off the paved road onto a dirt road near our old house. I ran up to this lady and said “hey, that horse over there is in distress and I think we should help it, also there was a crash and I can’t see the driver-“ she cut me off saying “Don’t worry about that, That horse has a bum leg and always does that, go away” I was thinking to myself “what a bitch” and walked away towards my family.
We started walking back the way we came, down the paved road again and I saw the deeply disturbing scenes again, finally I spoke up to my family , “ hey, we should really help these animals and I saw a a tractor wreck I think we should check out” but no one listened to me.
Suddenly we were back in the barn and I was face to face with the long-horned bull, only this time it was dead. Disturbed I pushed my way out of the barn and ran to a near by open area, my family close behind. They looked at me like I was crazy, scoffed, and turned to talk amongst themselves. The last thing I remember was trying to get my mother to talk to me, crying and pleading for her to just listen so we could help those animals and the driver of the tractor but again, no one was listening. A flash of the dead bull’s eyes popped up and I snapped awake.
Please help me try to figure this dream out, it scares the shit out of me and I don’t know what to make of it. I’m also open to questions.

Big white OWL in my dream??
Hi everyone!
In my dream I was at kitchen with my mother and my husband. Then we’ve seen a giant (about 2 ft) white owl standing behind our glass door staring at us.
I was sitting at the desk with my husband and the owl suddenly appeared near the desk inside our house and was staring at me. I normally am very scared of animals so I was scared in my dream as well. My husband got away from the table and was happy and chill as always. I was panicking and asking for his help.
The owl was still and constantly staring at me. I tried to get him away from me but couldnt succeed. Then I slightly petted him just like a dog to make him like me I guess. He was like obsessed with me and didnt let me go.
Eventually I managed to get up from the desk and walk to my husband and the owl attacked me at that point and I woke up with horror and heart beat.
Do you know what it can mean? It says owls represent spiritual things etc but dont know how to interpret. I’m at one of the most depressed times of my life so wanted to ask
Btw I didnt see any owls anywhere in real life, tv etc or talked about them with anyone

9-1-1
Last night I had a nightmare where my friends and I were all hanging out at my apartment. My Uncle was there, too. Suddenly, we all looked out my window and I see a plane spiraling out of control in the air. Doing loop-de-loop’s and all sorts of crazy shit. My instincts kick in and I start to freak out. My Uncle scolds me for being a “pussy” and telling me to relax. Suddenly, the plane makes a beeline for my apartment complex and crashes into the wall. The wall is still somehow intact, but the wall is now severely damaged and the window is blown out. I can tell that the building is about to collapse.
I look to my Uncle and friends who are unconscious beneath a bunch of random debris in the middle of my living room. I quickly grab my cat and force her into her kennel. I nervously step outside of my front door and away from the building. I then attempt to call 9-1-1. Phone stops ringing. I try again. 9-1-1. No pickup. No response. I keep dialing 9-1-1 over and over and over again. Trying to get some help for my friends and family. Nobody picks up. Every time I dial, I scream out the numbers 9-1-1. Repeatedly.
That’s when I jolted awake in my bed. My cat lying peacefully beside me. I immediately check my phone out of instinct. The time was 9:11 am. No shit.
No idea what this means, or how I knew the time...could just be a giant coincidence...

My pet just visited my dream on the 1 month anniversary of her death
She died exactly one month ago. I never had a dream of her until now. I dreamt that my dad opened our back yard door and she came running towards me as she always did to greet me. In my dream I thought she was dead but seeing her alive brought tears in my eyes and I actually woke up crying

Have any of you fallen in love in a dream?
I just had my second experience of this last night, although I don't think it was as powerful as the first. I wrote this down as soon as I got the chance in the morning to 'record' it:
I had a really nice dream today. I dreamt I was at university, in love with a girl. She was Asian (from which country I couldn't tell) and we lived together. She had silky, shoulder length hair, like onyx, and kept two frogs as pets in our room. I can't recall their names, but I do remember being comfortable with them. We were returning from some kind of group trip on a coach when, upon our arrival, it began to rain. If I were being hyperbolic, I might have even called it torrential. We ran from the bus doors to our room, hand in tightly clasped hand, under the pregnable veil of our umbrellas, and I remember how the beads of rainwater dripped down her hair like morning dew. How, if I was searching for the pinnacle of beauty, that I had found it in her picture-frame smile; the kind that reaches up to the eyes, with hands starving for high-sat fruit on some exotic tree whose name you can't pronounce. The otherworldly kind, that you might search centuries for to no avail, and rest knowing it was a life well spent.
This one felt more like I'd already been in love with her for a long time, but the first one was the act of meeting her, 'her' being a different girl entirely, and it was significantly more intense. I woke up almost crying because I wanted to go back. She had curly Auburn hair reaching her shoulders, with bangs covering her forehead and black glasses. I get the feeling her name had a K and a Y in there, but I can't remember. There was some kind of a theme park or fair, as well as some background characters who were meant to be friends both she and I had just met, but we always wound up alone with each other. I remember feeling alone with her, even in massive crowds, and that we opened up to each other ridiculously easily, just because it felt right, and that when I'd woken up I thought to myself: 'I never need to ask myself what love feels like. It's that.'
Anyone else been through something like this?
(First post here btw, sorry if this isn't the right place or flair)
