What are possible meanings for dreams of cats?

A cat is a versatile dream symbol commonly associated with femininity. Cats are “felines,” and, female or male, they exhibit traditionally feminine traits such as grace and affection.

Symbolism can be created from typical cat traits such as curiosity, independence, and leisure. For example, dreaming about a cat caught in a door can symbolize catching your curious sister reading your diary. Dreaming about a tomcat that wants to be let out at night can symbolize a mate who’d rather go out and party than stay home and snuggle. Dreaming about a cat napping can symbolize a leisurely approach to life, or taking a break.

Those common associations with cats can be used as symbolism, but your personal associations matter most. What do you associate with cats, and does it fit the narrative of your dream and the behavior of the cats in it?

Cat owners are likely to dream about their cats. It’s often connected with something they see in themselves that’s reflected in their cat’s personality or behavior.

For example, a woman dreams that her cat escapes the house and she tries to retrieve it. It hides from her and requires coaxing to return to the house. The dream could relate to fear that the cat will get out—she’s very protective of it—but in this case, the pet cat represents a quality she shares with it: the instinct to run away when feeling unsafe. Her life has been chaotic lately and part of her just wants to run away. Retrieving the cat is a way of saying she’s mustering her resolve to face her insecurity.

The cat of someone you know in your dream can refer to that person. In the dream, it’s not just your brother’s cat, for example, it’s your brother, in a sense. A reference to him. It’s something about him such as a trait or fact about his life.

Dreaming about your cat getting lost can symbolize losing something about yourself as represented by the cat. For example, lately you haven’t been feeling playful or affectionate like your cat.

Dreaming that your cat dies—whether or not you actually have a cat—is likely to be symbolism along the same lines as what it means to lose it, except that the situation is more serious, your feelings stronger. The loss is harder to take. It can mean the loss of a relationship with a female, or loss of a feminine trait or quality.

Cat owners can dream about cats they owned that died. These sometimes-heartbreaking dreams help the healing process by bringing out unprocessed emotions. If the dreams are positive, they can symbolize fond memories. If negative, it can mean something is unresolved. See: Pets

Alternately, the pet you lost can symbolize a more recent loss in your life or in yourself, such as loss of a friend. It can mean something in you is dying. Or you desire to have the close companionship you had with that pet.

Cats have associations with promiscuity, as in the term “cat around.” A cat rubbing against you can symbolize flirtation.

Dreams about fighting with a cat can connect with arguments or fights with a female in your life. For example, a young man who recently broke up with his girlfriend dreams repeatedly of cats attacking him out of the blue. It symbolizes the ambush attacks of his bitter ex-girlfriend.

I shared a dream with my girlfriend

Okay so my girlfriend and I are very close and loving. We are twin flames, soul mates whatever you like to call it. It has happened a few times but one time more vivid than the rest. I was having a dream with specific details it included a person (my girlfriends uncle) a random black cat and my girlfriends cat. So in the dream my girlfriends uncle brought home a strange cat it was all black and very hostile toward the family cat and it was chasing it and biting it etc being very aggressive. I can’t remember many other details apart from the fact that her uncle was the one who brought the cat home. The weird thing is, my girlfriend and I woke up at the exact same time, we sat up at the exact same time, just kind of looked at eachother in shock before either of us said anything. And then I said “did you just have a dream?” And she said yes. Then at the exact same time we both said “about a black cat?” Literally we synchronized when we said it. We then started talking and the details were the exact same, we were in each other’s dream!! The same dream. How is this possible? Is it possible that the family cat being attacked by the hostile cat also shared the dream with us? When we woke up the cat was meowing at the door and freaking out. It was a very strange experience, surreal

I had the most disturbing dream of my life

My childhood cat died very suddenly two weeks ago. She choked due to water in her lungs. We couldn't save her. I remember driving home after my brother called with the intention of saving her, that she wasn't really dead. Her death really messed with me. Words can't express how much I loved her and I can't stop imagining her choking. This dream is very, very disturbing.

Today I took a nap. I woke up after the most disturbing dream of my entire life. I was sitting on the couch and realized my cat's body was next to me, at the exact spot she used to sleep all the time. Not only that, there was two of her. Someone picked one of the two up and took it out of sight. I asked my mom what it was doing there. She told me she took her out of the freezer (we are keeping her body until we can bury it since it's winter) because she missed her too much. My cat then started moving slightly. She started choking. I tried to save her. I started blowing in her mouth to clear her throat and doing the Heimlich method on her. However her body kept slipping out of my hands and falling in weird positions on the couch. She finally stopped choking. She had died again. I called 911 to ask them to come over and make sure she was dead. While I was waiting my whole family started chasing me with knives; even my disabled brother who cannot run and my very old grandma. They pushed me to the ground and started trying to stab me while laughing. I managed to get up and answer the door: the ambulance was here. Two men in a red suit were there. They were the chiefs of ambulances or whatever. They looked at my cat and confirmed she was very, very dead and that her moving was a response from her dead body the the stimuli around her. I thanked them and escorted them to the door. When I came back to the living room my cat was laying the exact same way as she is laying in the picture of her I have on my desk in my dorms. What's really freaking weird to me is that it was only her skeleton, which I found cute in my dream? Then her skeleton started shrinking and I woke up.

I called my mom and started crying while telling her about it. I still feel very weird and needed a place to share.

I had a nightmare about killing my cat and I'm feeling really sad and worried after it. Don't know what it means.

I had a dream that I had a duplicate of my cat living in my house and replacing my cat whenever possible. The duplicate was some sort of an evil spirit or something, you could tell it's the duplicate cause it had one eye white. The duplicate would leave human and cat body parts in places around my house. I literally dreamt that there was a dead cat in a bowl of soup, pieces of human lip skin and tongue cut off of a human and put on the ground. Sometimes my mom would be patting the duplicate while I held my real cat and then I'd yell "mom, that's not (cat name)". The dream ended with me being given a choice to either die by the duplicate ccatpossessing my ccatand killing my family or kill my ccat I begin to go from patting my ccatslowly to patting my ccatmore and more heavily and then it just became hitting and then I woke up in tears and ran to check on my ccat

9-1-1

Last night I had a nightmare where my friends and I were all hanging out at my apartment. My Uncle was there, too. Suddenly, we all looked out my window and I see a plane spiraling out of control in the air. Doing loop-de-loop’s and all sorts of crazy shit. My instincts kick in and I start to freak out. My Uncle scolds me for being a “pussy” and telling me to relax. Suddenly, the plane makes a beeline for my apartment complex and crashes into the wall. The wall is still somehow intact, but the wall is now severely damaged and the window is blown out. I can tell that the building is about to collapse.

I look to my Uncle and friends who are unconscious beneath a bunch of random debris in the middle of my living room. I quickly grab my cat and force her into her kennel. I nervously step outside of my front door and away from the building. I then attempt to call 9-1-1. Phone stops ringing. I try again. 9-1-1. No pickup. No response. I keep dialing 9-1-1 over and over and over again. Trying to get some help for my friends and family. Nobody picks up. Every time I dial, I scream out the numbers 9-1-1. Repeatedly.

That’s when I jolted awake in my bed. My cat lying peacefully beside me. I immediately check my phone out of instinct. The time was 9:11 am. No shit.

No idea what this means, or how I knew the time...could just be a giant coincidence...

Sex cult dream

What is so freaking weird.. I had a sex cult dream yesterday 6-13-20 around 6pm... Well I ACTUALLY WANTED to join it in the dream..Well.... I walked down a dirt road or path... I walked to the right... And there was a open gate.. there was a chain hanging on it to my left... I rattled it to let my presence be known. The right hand of the cult immediately put her hand I believe on my throat... And I said "I want to join your cult. Let me rephrase that, I wanna join your coven." My cat woke me up right after I said that. These were mostly women.. and they were all in black cloaks. The leader was a woman. I remember thinking that I wanted to be the leader.... But I decided to write it down, bc it was so vivid... I looked it up and came across this one post this dude posted 6 yrs ago On here somewhere...But isn't it weird... The holy Trinity and it's on the 13th. Well.. let.. me know what you think
