An interpretation of decapitation dreams

An interpretation of decapitation dreams

This interpretation is from ""The Dream Interpretation Dictionary: Symbols, Signs, and Meanings" and is provided by J.M. DeBord aka "RadOwl". He is the author of several acclaimed books about dreaming, the host of The Dreams That Shape Us podcast, and is a moderator of r/Dreams, one of the largest dream sharing communities on the internet. The symbolism of decapitation is often associated with the head and its functions. It can mean unclear thinking, or not listening. Or something deserves more attention or consideration. Or you don’t like the thoughts in your head. It’s too full. Or you’re ignoring the obvious message that something isn’t right in yourself or your life. Decapitation can symbolize the idea in the phrase “lose your head,” acting out of character or irrationally. Or you aren’t listening to your heart. Conflict between your head and heart is a common dream theme. Your head says one thing, your heart says another. You’re being too rational, or too emotional. Important parts of you are separated or divided. See: Giraffes Whether or not the action is directed at you or someone else is important. If it happens to you, the symbolism is likely to apply to you. But a stranger being decapitated is either a surrogate character for you, or an observation of something that happened recently, such as someone you know losing his head figuratively, or drastic action was taken, or hard punishment was dished out. Decapitation of an animal can mean you aren’t listening to your instincts, or you’re taking drastic measures to control your impulses. In that sense, decapitation is similar to the symbolism of castration. See also: Body parts, Castration, Death, Executing, Giraffes, Hanging, Heads, Necks
