What are possible meanings for dreams of kittens?

The symbolism of kittens in dreams can be based on associations with kittens in general. They are typically viewed as cute, cuddly, sweet, playful, innocent, and helpless. They require nurture and care. What do those ideas compare to in your life?

One possibility is that “kitten-like” qualities are emerging in you, especially if you dream about giving birth to a kitten. This theme is more prevalent in males because being sweet and playful does not fit the image of the standard male, yet these traits are part of the human repertoire. Males have a harder time allowing them to become part of their personality. It’s not to say that females can’t have the same inner conflict, but that these traits are generally more encouraged in females than males.

When the traits arise and are unwanted, a person might dream about kittens that are starving or dead. If the traits are wanted, a person might dream about nurturing kittens and caring for them.

Kittens and other young animals such as puppies and bear cubs can symbolize young children—children already born, or still in the womb.

For example, a pregnant woman dreams about a litter of kittens. She is not a “cat person” and doesn’t particularly like the kittens, but one of them, the only boy in the bunch, a beautiful gray one, catches her eye. She warms up to him and starts to like him by the end of the dream.

It symbolizes her process of warming up to the idea of keeping her baby, which she has recently found out is male. When she first found out she was pregnant she intended to abort; then she looked into adoption. But once she learned her baby was male, she decided to keep him—not because she had anything against females, but because she felt a special bond with him. The association that clinches the connection between her fetus and the kitten in the dream is the name she has in mind for her boy: Sterling. Sterling is a shade of light gray, the same color as the kitten.

Kittens can have symbolism related to cats. See: Cats

Kittens can have symbolism related to animals. See: Animals

And kittens can have symbolism related to being newly born, to something that will grow and mature, and it doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with traditional associations with kittens or cats. See: Babies

For example, in a dream about suddenly having four kittens to care for and trying to figure out how to do that and continue working, the dreamer is actually thinking about four college courses she is taking. She also works full-time, and juggling it all is tricky. Raising kittens is an apt metaphor for her classes because they require constant, careful tending.

What does it mean taking care of newborn kittens in your dream?

I had a dream that I was helping clean these kittens one by one as they came out the mother cat in a really shitty room, almost like an abandoned room. Some had fur, and one didn’t have any fur, almost looking like a rat. (It was really weird) One kittens died sadly. There were people in the room I knew (like family and friends) but obviously I didn’t talk to them. I felt unsafe in the room because there was a family member who had molested me when I was younger in the room, just standing there and watching me.I placed them in a box with their mother after cleaning them. But I kept seeing these tiny bugs flying around them. It was disgusting. The people that were in the room disappeared by then. I tried fanning out the bugs. By the time I started fanning out the bugs, the mother jumped out the box and she was gone, leaving me with thekittenss.

Sorry if it’s not detailed enough, I wasn’t able to remember much.

Emotional cat dream

I dreamed that if people didn’t collect their pets from the airport there was a system in which the airport would have them put down and incinerated. I didn’t know this until I found a kitten and asked passerby’s and they informed me that there was a collection area. I didn’t believe them so I hid the cat in my coat and went to check it out, when I got there there was a cat already there that looked like the grown version of the kitten hidden in my jacket. Knowing what was going to happen I stole the cat. For some reason the airport was very angry about this and started looking for us once I fled the airport. It was full on with searchlights and everything. Eventually I knew I couldn’t get away so I sat them down and told them “God will surely look after you as there’s no one in a lower situation than you.” Now.... that’s not really true and the whole thing is ridiculous but I’m a relatively emotionless man in my mid twenties and Jesus Christ... I keep having to fight back tears whenever I think about it. I don’t talk like this, I don’t think like this none of this appears normal. I’ve had some relationship stuff I’ve been wrestling with and I woke up with a clear idea of how to handle it and it all seems good now.... except I can’t stop wanting to bawl for these cats that don’t exist.... I don’t cry at funerals or injuries or really anything but these cats have me shaken up.

[Long, Sad] My little cat.

I just had a dream that as a young boy I recieved my little cat.

We went through adventures and hardships together as I grew. I scrimpted and saved what little money I had to buy him food, I cried when he accidentally got out and I stayed awake all night until he came back.

One day my acquaintance brought his dog to my home, the dog was not friendly and bit me and harrassed me and my little cat defended me, getting bitten so I wouldn't have to.

As I grew more, we became inseparable. When my mother and father died he was there for me and kept me company in my bed on those lonely nights. When I turned 18 I was drafted for the war.

In my dream I was walking down a hallway that showed the passage of time. I saw pain and suffering, death and betrayal, I heard bombs and gunfire, I saw children orphaned and parents lose their children and heard the hateful screams of my general telling me to shoot more and to be a man.

When I looked down to my side my little cat was right there with me.

I kept walking and eventually the wars ended. Now I was in my late 20's dragging myself down the hallway, I saw offices and linoleum floors, cubicles and bleary eyed, tired men in suits. I saw my hateful general, now my boss, screaming and spitting telling me to take more clients, take more calls, and work later.

When I looked down to my side my little cat was right there with me.

Now I was in my 40's sitting in my new office. My boss had called me and asked if I had met with the clients yet. I looked at the clock and saw that I was 20 min late, I bolted from my office and before I got to The door my boss stopped me. I was disheveled, my hair was a mess, my shirt was unbuttoned, my eyes were red and my cheeks were stained with tears. He asked me what was wrong with me. I sniffed, wiped my eyes, and clumsily buttoned my shirt with the wrong buttons as I slowly began to cry.

"I'm sorry sir, my little cat just died and I need a moment to collect myself."

"Ha! Are you crying over a stupid cat? You always were useless, in the war and now at this."

He slapped me with those last words. I balled my fists as I stared into his eyes and screamed:

"You bastard. That cat was my life, he was my mother and father, he was my comfort during the war, he was my only source of love while working at this company. He was my best friend and brother, and I think I'd rather join him than work for you one more day. Why don't you just kill me now."

I was now outside in the freezing snow, tall apartment buildings lined the streets and I could see a full moon above me. In front of me, my boss held his old war pistol. He said:

"I knew you were always useless"

as he pulled the trigger. I felt the bullet rip through my chest and I fell. I heard his crunching footsteps fade away in the snow as I lay on my back watching the moon, the blood pouring from my chest.

Everything slowly grew colder, darker, and the last thing I felt was the soft fur of my little cat rubbing against my face and his little meow, before everything faded away.

I've never had a more emotional dream. I woke up crying. I'm still crying. I have a cat that lives with my ex because my mom doesn't like cats. It was the same cat. I got him as a kitten. I miss him.

Dear internet, please help me

So last night I had a dream and there was this very cute blue cat that looked like a plush toy. The dream itself is not important, I just want to know where the fuck that cat came from. I think I saw it in a 3D animated short film or something like that, but I couldn't find it anywhere. I thought it may be from a commercial, in which case it would be a lot more difficult to find. At first I also thought it could be from a game, but I don't even play many games, and finally I remembered Toy Story. I didn't find the cat, but I found Angel Kitty. It kinda looks similar, but it still isn't *the cat.*

I'm very sure I must have seen it somewhere, I've been waiting since I woke up to write this and see if anyone knew where it came from, It's night time already and I still remember it very clearly. I even tried to draw it, but it kinda looks like Hello Kitty, and I might have changed it a little without wanting to. If you have any idea please comment.

Dreamt of a big cat catching, wounding bird and trying to feed it to me.

I was in a zoo type situation, like where they have those walk through areas that are usually for birds. But in the dream I walked through one area with smaller kittens, and very flimsy type doors that seemed like they should have closed better between the sections with kittens and the big cats. And I'm not talking about grown up house cats, but small big cats like a cervil. There were at least five big cats in their section. They were hunting and pouncing on small birds, but not fully killing them. Two different times one of the cats with the maimed bird tried to feed it to me. It wasn't a nightmare, but it was certainly unpleasant. I'm currently going through a separation from a husband who borders on being emotionally abusive at worst and this separation has been a long time coming.
