Return to the feelings

Our emotions in dreams can help us understand its meaning. Pay attention to how you felt in the dream. Pay attention to how you feel about disease in dreams. See how you feel about disease now, in your waking life.

What are possible meanings for dreams of disease?

Having a disease in a dream can indicate something’s wrong. It might be your health—dreams are known to deliver direct messages about health, and the body has a monitoring system that speaks through them. Or it might relate to your mind or emotions, either of which can be said to be diseased.

Think of disease as a metaphor. What does it describe in an exaggerated way?

Disease in a dream often relates to stress, anxiety, and anything else you might say is slowly killing you. See: Cancer

Disease can mean you’re no longer able to cope with a situation.

Disease can symbolize something you do that’s wrong. For example, a woman who starts shoplifting dreams about having gangrene in her hands. She uses her hands to shoplift, and gangrene symbolizes the fear of getting caught that’s eating at her.

Fear of disease can lead to dreams about it. It can be your worst nightmare come true. The nightmares will continue until the fear is confronted or resolved. See: Fear

Dreams can speak directly when they warn of disease and identify what it is and where it’s located in the body. Dr. Larry Burk’s research into dreams that warn of breast cancer goes into depth on this subject. All varieties of diseases and medical conditions can be addressed through dreams. Dreams can advise about treatments and cures.

Direct-warning dreams feel heavy. They’re somber, serious, sometimes with a “Sorry I have to tell you this” vibe. They can be repetitive, coming night after night until the message is heeded. And they can be seconded by the dreams of people close to you, who can pick up on subconscious clues.

A man had a dream that harkened back to when he caught typhoid as a child, and it was triggered by smelling typhoid on the breath of someone he met the previous day. Typhoid leaves a distinct smell on the breath that manifests before the symptoms, but he didn’t realize at the time why the smell was familiar. That night he had the dream, and the next day he found out the person he met had typhoid.

Diseases can manifest in dreams as problems with the condition of a building, especially a house, because a building is a common symbol for the body, and many comparisons and metaphors can be made with it. For example, cloudy windows can symbolize cataracts. Rusty hinges can symbolize arthritis. Clogged pipes can symbolize arterial disease. A bullet embedded in your body can symbolize a tumor (which can suddenly “explode” with growth). A bite on the neck can symbolize throat trouble.

Or perhaps someone is a pain in the neck, or something is draining your vitality. Always consider alternatives. Disease in a dream is usually figurative, not literal.

“The root of disease is dis-ease,” is a saying from the holistic-health community. “Dis-ease” is a state of unease, anxiety, stress or fear. Dreaming about disease can mean dis-ease, and they go hand in hand because chronic dis-ease is a precursor to actual disease.

Disease can express itself through somatic metaphor. Symptoms are physical manifestations of a person’s life story, often arising from chronic situations. For example, chronic lack of physical intimacy can manifest as symptoms in the reproductive organs. A situation crippling you in the personal sense can manifest as an autoimmune disease crippling you in the physical sense.

Dreams can use symbolism comparable to getting a disease, or someone you love getting a disease. It can rock your world like an earthquake, hang over your head like a funnel cloud, and toss your boat like a hurricane.

Also consider situations described as “diseased.” Diseased organizations are dysfunctional. A family disease is something passed down through generations, such as addiction.

This was the most horrific dream of my entire life.

Sorry if this ends up formatted weird. I’m typing this on my phone after just waking up.

I just had the most horrifying dream of my entire life, and I joined this subreddit specifically to post this. Particularly if you’re a mother, this may upset you to read.

I’m not sure how much exposition is needed here, but here is what I think might be relavant. My boyfriend (31M, Evan) and I (27F) have been together for three years this month. We have been living together the last year and couldn’t be happier. We annoy each other occasionally, but have no serious problems to speak of. We have talked about marriage and children when we are ready, but at the moment our only “children” are our three ferrets and my two younger brothers (19 and 21) who have always treated me like a second mum. Our mum has issues that I won’t go into here. The 19 year old brother moved in with us after he graduated high school to avoid having to continue to live with our mum. The 21 year old brother is preparing to move in with us for the same reason. He was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease when he was 15 and has only had one functioning lung for some time, so he can’t be independent at the moment. Thus the still living with mum.
That’s all the exposition I can think of that might be needed. If anything needs further clarification, let me know. Here’s the dream:

It started out happy. Evan and I had two little boys which were inexplicably Hispanic, (we are both white) about 9 and 6 maybe, and biologically both of ours, (dream me didn’t cheat). We took them out to see a comedy show. That part made sense, it was two comedians whose podcast we watch on YouTube together all the time. My friends from college were there, and we hugged and caught up in the lobby. There were other kids there so I let them go play.

A little time passed and I saw they were not in the room. I looked around and turned to tell Evan (not panicked yet because kids wander) that we needed to go look for them. Suddenly he, with my friends trailing behind him, bolted out the door and across the street to what at first looked like a toy store, but upon further inspection, was a produce store, specifically fresh fruit. It’s a dream so of course as hard as I ran, I couldn’t keep up with them. My oldest boy caught up and started running with us at one point.

In the middle of the store was a giant, white, plastic pool, three feet high and probably twelve feet deep into the ground. There were bits of fruit and watery fruit cocktail juice inside (it seems that is where they mass produced that canned fruit cocktail). In the center was a massive, steel, blade (think a blender) that was turned off at that moment. The whole thing was just open to the whole store, and Evan had already climbed in. I peered inside and saw red everywhere. But that could be strawberries, or cherries, or watermelon, or...I struggled to get in through my rising panic, and because it was slippery and I was weak.

Evan said, “Are you sure you’ll be able to get back out?”

I replied, reaching for his hand, shaking and close to tears, “I don’t care. Help me in.”

Then the dream didn’t show me much inside there. Only enough details to confirm my terror and cause me to wake from my sleep screaming.

So I’m a little messed up right now.

Saw my own severed Head !!!!

Last night in dream, one of the unique I had never ever seen in my entire life.

I, along with my mother went to a doctor and doctor examined me and suggested to cut my head off from body in order to heal an unknown disease. I saw doctor, with a single hand pulled off my head from the body like pulling off plug from electric switch board. My head came off with wires nerves hanging and doctor suggested to keep clean head and keep it away from body for 2 or 3 days.

I came back to home and keeping in mind (of course I was walking without a head on my body and yet I was able to see everything and listening. I kept my severed head in a box wrapped in plastic bag.
Then I moved on to life ...and 3 days later I suddenly realised Ohh..I needed to clean/wash my severed head I rushed to check the box condition of my head and from top I noticed it got some white worm...yukk, I had two thought I should clean it with water and go to doctor. second thought Leave I dont need this head anymore.

In the end I left the head in box as it is as I was reluctant to touch head with full of worms.

On internet I could not find interpretation of this Dream.
Any insight would really help me
Thanks for your time friends

Dream I cured a disease with a chemical that apparently does exist, and was studied for... Cancer treatment???

I won't be naming it, just in case I stumbled upon some forbidden knowledge. A year ago, I dreamt of working in a lab where we were growing germs in plates under a large incubator. Metal tubes, pipes, and wires filled the room, which had a very mid-century feel to the flooring and windows. The older man I worked with was wearing 70s clothes as he described this amazing new compound and it's ability to destroy unwanted things from parasites to tumors.

I woke up in a frenzy and quickly googled the name of the chemical before I forgot. No results. Curious and convinced, I put it into Google Scholar instead. Sure enough, a few articles *from the 70s and 80s* came up about this very real chemical being used to cure tumors. They were either scrubbed, or only a few were ever written. I freaked out and shook my boyfriend awake to tell him the story, and he was shocked too.

Freaky stuff!!

Crocodile ritual to cure hellish disease

I dreamt that there was this rare disease that caused the whole body to stiffen and paralyze with constant and hellish pain. There was this one shaman who knew how to cure it. It was with a ritual that involved the shaman going to his crocodile farm and choosing a pair of crocodiles, one passive and wise, and the other aggressive and violent. The wise crocodile was one that knew the way through the river to the place where souls can rest. The shaman would then kill the aggressive crocodile and nail the human victim of the disease to the dead crocodile, their backs touching each other. Then he would place them both in the river such that the crocodile was floating in the water and the person was resting on the crocodile facing up, and then he'd tie the two to the wise crocodile who would guide both of their souls to the afterlife/resting place. This was the only way to put the person's soul at rest for eternity. Otherwise, the disease would cause that person's torment to never end, even after death.

Any thoughts?

I had a dream that someone who I dont actually know in real life died and I was so devestated by it that I felt physical pain in the dream.

I woke up today and felt down all day, it has really affected me but I didnt even know who the person was. I think they died of a disease or sickness, it felt like their life was cut short. My connection to this person felt like they were almost a stranger to me, or a new person in my life. I knew they were going to die because they had some kind of illness, and I developed a deep connection to them in a short period and stayed with them until the end. Pretty sure they died in my arms.

The pain was very intense, it physically hurt in my chest and felt like a devastating heartbreak. I cried so hard, it felt like the love of my life just died.

Any interpretations on that? Im feeling quite sad still, I cant shake it off.
