What are possible meanings for dreams of family homes?

When you visit a family home you used to live in, it can be a way of revisiting the past, exploring the roots of who you are now and where you are in your life. Or back in that home is a part of yourself that’s left behind.

A family home can be dreamed about as a way of pointing to when something began that’s relevant now. It is where patterns take hold, habits start, ideas form, and thought processes begin. You don’t dream about a family home simply to reminisce. You dream about it because your present life is patterned after, or affected by, what started there.

For example, a young man dreams he’s a kid again and back in his old family home with his sister, also a kid again. A siren sounds. A tornado is coming. Ominous black clouds dominate the sky. He goes to the basement and his sister is down there. She screams, “I should have seen it coming!” What the siblings should have seen coming was their parents’ divorce when they lived in that home. She’s in the dream because she shared in the experience and was affected too.

The detail about being a kid again in his family home is clue that the dream is about something that happened when he was that age. The tornado symbolizes the mess of tumultuous feelings related to the divorce, and the black clouds symbolize the ones hanging over his life since the divorce. The siren warns of the coming difficulty as the feelings finally come out. He can repress it all back down into his “inner basement,” but it’s coming up now in his dreams, years after the fact, because he’s ready to deal with it even if he doesn’t consciously know it.

People starting a family will dream about their family home as a way of thinking about the environment they want to create—or avoid creating—for their children.

You might dream about your family home because you want to create a similar living environment for yourself, with love, acceptance, connection, belonging, purpose, meaning. Or you want to avoid recreating the stress, loss, and hard feelings you grew up with.

What does a family home symbolize for you? For some people it’s a place of great comfort. Many special memories are formed there. Adults can dream about their family home (and family members) during challenging times as a way of drawing strength from it. For them, the family home is the foundation of adult life, their rock.

For other people it’s a source of unresolved issues. They are called home in their dreams to sort things out.

A journey, a rhino, and broken phone.

My family (husband (m/43yo), me (f/41), and 2 daughters (9yo & 7yo) left a party to find that our car was stolen. I went to call for help and my cell phone was broken. The four of us found 2 mini-donkeys and decided to ride them home. With one parent and one kid both on each donkey it was a difficult ride - uncomfortable, hot, and a generally unpleasant experience. We stopped when we could go no further and my 7yo and I went into a barn and met a friendly talking baby (or maybe just mini) rhinoceros named Sharkley. I asked if my daughter could ride him home to make the rest of the journey easier to bear. He said no. We left the barn and with all four of us together again we started walking into the city. The dream ended with me wanting to call and rent a car to get my family home but my phone was broken, which was very frustrating. When I woke up I felt strongly that the dream was important. Residual feelings include not understanding why the rhino wouldn't help and frustration at not having the tools I need to improve/fix my our situation.

I'm no dream expert but wondering if there is anything symbolic or meaningful here. Yesterday was an eclipse, after all! TIA for your time and expertise. :)

Just me analysing my religious and sexuality dream

My sister superior led me down the stairs of our building, into the place for those 'mentally sick.' My nervousness gathered within me and cacophanied into fear when the light was missing. From every inch of the twisted corridors and every 'treatment room' I was led into, the light was no more. Pitch blackness. Like midnight, only as a punishment for us wretched girls. I felt my chest tighten and I knew that as I hadn't been given a superior in this dungeon of hell, that I had a chance to escape. I peeked into a treatment room. Two nuns were sat on either side of a bench. On the bench sat a girl. She had adjusted to this abyss of torture. A screen in front of her played television static and she contently listened to the white noise. I shut the door and made my way down the corridor. I was getting lost, but I had to stay calm and walk as frantically as I could without running. Running would draw attention to me. Finally, I found the light, and I opened a glass door, breaking myself away from the monstrosity of the treatment centre. Now, I was in an office, like the admin part of the darkness clinic. Brown carpets and boring oak desks. I untangled myself from the maze of new corridors and burst into my original setting: a large foyer of a large glass building.

I learned to live in this new environment, as a healthy girl, away from the torment chamber. I went out onto the field with the other girls and we played the only game available: throwing rocks. We threw one rock and when it landed we picked it back up and threw it again. This continued until we reached the end of the field, and then we went all the way back. We tried on ballgowns and then were inspected by a woman who checked us over one by one. I arrived into the dressing room, a bland basement, late one day. I didn't have time to put on my blue ballgown, so I wore it over my body, and over my black bardot top. Other girls also were in my dilemma and chose to hastily cover themselves in their dresses. This worked in a pinch, as we were all being inspected while sitting on a long sofa. I sat in the corner. The girl beside me was also hiding her mistake. We were both marked as fails.

Me and this girl from the gown test fell in love. We left the commune and took a train to her family home, to visit her mother. I was introduced to her mother and her siblings. Her mother liked me and I gave her a cosmetic gift bag I hoped she would appreciate. I was nervous that she didn't know that me and her daughter were dating, but she seemed to know and accept it. Then, my girlfriend, very embarrassingly asked if she could then take me away to her bedroom to “form the foundations of our relationship,” Anyway, we went into her bedroom and had sex on some floral bedsheets. It was amazing and the best dream sex I could ask for.

Does anyone have any insight to this dream I had? It was pretty jarring for me.

I had a dream last night that was pretty jarring for me.
The dream:
I was in my family home sitting in the living room. An old friend walks in from the hallway that leads to my moms room. She tells me my mom has been murdered and so have my 2 cousins that were sleeping upstairs. It takes me a moment to process this information. I say that I need to go check for myself but my friend says that it is something I don’t want to see because it’s gruesome. Then, I say “this must be a dream.” I kind of buckled over and closed my eyes so I could wake up. My friend says “it’s not a dream I tried to wake up already and it didn’t work.”
Suddenly friends and family start walking up to the house. I walk outside to greet then and that’s when it hits me. I realize I will never see my mom again and I start freaking out and hyperventilating. (Side note: my dad died a few months ago and I was aware of this in my dream. The thought of me and my sister being left alone with no parents was excruciating) I walk back inside and I’m in the kitchen looking for something in the fridge. Suddenly, my mom walks in to the room completely unharmed. She was never dead in the first place. I am so relieved and also a little confused but most just so happy.

Does anyone have any interpretation of this?

In a team of superhero trainees investigating the damage of a deadly team of villains

I remember going with my team into a steely dark basement with some wreckage (wooden planks and rubble) where highly powerful villains had been (even one would be difficult to take on for the entire team). We were there to investigate, not engage in combat. The general atmosphere was cautious and on edge.

(It was about a team of 5 or 6. One of the team members was Gus from Gravity Falls and another was Samantha from Dear White People who wore this cool all black suit.)

As we entered a basement and looked through the wreckage, we could hear one of the villains still there. All of us hid behind a pillar as they came closer and we realized there were actually two of them still here. We knew we weren't powerful enough, we were new to this but then Gus (here I go from 3rd person POV to being 1st person as Gus) tries something new and unlocks a new power. He begins to spin which makes him go invisible and in a rush of wind blows the villain into the wreckage and overpowers him.

At this moment I knew that all the stronger powers the villain team had could be unlocked by my hero team. We were taught that the villainous power could only be evil but I realized that it was within everyone's grasp, even if you are on the good side.

Now Gus still hasn't mastered his new powers so he continues spinning and goes upstairs, pushing the villain up with him. The staircase was black and felt like those outdoor stairs on the side of European apartments. Upstairs, Gus pushes the villain out and passes some sunlit balconies with plants. The upper floor of the house was warm and friendly. He explores for a while and then remembers his teammates are still in the basement and goes back down.

The downstairs is now a family home (looks like my childhood home). There is a little boy riding a tricycle in the house and a mom in the kitchen. Gus keep spinning around, and as long as he keeps spinning he is invisible. But his movements aren't as controlled when he's spinning so he tries to slow down. Every time he does so and is visible again, the little boy bumps into him and hollers.

They happen to be behind a few wall pillars so the mom doesn't see. She starts walking over and chastises her son for being noisy. By the time she arrives, Gus is spinning away again. This happens for a couple of rounds, the atmosphere light and comedic now.

Then Gus remembers again he is looking for his team members and spins away. I forgot how this dream ends, if he goes back into the basement or not.
