What are possible meanings for dreams of tornados?
Tornadoes are terrific symbols for frantic activity. When your life is like a whirlwind it can’t slow down. It’s frenetic, busy. Things happen quickly, suddenly.
For example, in a dream about two tornadoes, the dreamer, an author, is thinking about two writing projects he has going. He realizes it’s too much to take on at once and has to drop one of them to give his best to the other one.
Tornadoes are destructive, flinging objects and debris all directions. That association can be used to compare with someone you know, such as a child leaving a trail of destruction. It can symbolize personal destruction, or something in your life that leaves a trail of destruction in its wake. See: Destruction
In simplest terms, a tornado is a disaster. See: Disasters
Tornadoes can show the powerful force inside you that’s going to shake up your life. It’s the force of change, unstoppable. For a great example of such a dream, see: Family Home.
In this way, tornadoes are commonly misunderstood as nothing but bad. Sometimes you need to mix things up. You need change—dramatic change. You have something big inside you trying to come out, and it takes a big change to make it happen.
Before making a big change, especially a change in their psyche, people are known to dream about tornadoes hunting them. And ultimately it’s a sign to let go and allow the powerful forces of the unconscious to work within you. See: Unconscious minds
Those forces will unleash tremendous energy. A tornado is, after all, powerfully energetic. And as a funnel whirling around a core, it’s a great symbol for the energy of the psyche. See: Spirals
Or the spinning motion could symbolize arguments that go round and round, or thoughts that do—your head is spinning. It can mean your life is turned around by a powerful event. You suddenly find yourself going a different direction, just as tornadoes are known for suddenly switching directions.
Tornadoes can have a devastating impact, and that association can be used by dreams to symbolize something that devastates you: separation, failure, loss, addiction, illness, mental breakdown. A feeling of devastation can stem from a specific situation, or stress.
A tornado is a particularly good metaphor for heavy stress—it’s destructive, turbulent, electric, stormy—and captures the related emotions in one image.
The damage to a city, town or neighborhood caused by a tornado in a dream can symbolize forces bringing down structures in your life such as values, beliefs, and assumptions. You’re rethinking something—or everything. See: Buildings, Constructing
Damage to a home, on the other hand, tends to symbolize damage to your life or body. See: Home
A tornado can symbolize something avoided or run from because it brings up strong emotions or bad memories. See: Storms
As something feared, tornadoes can symbolize any fear, but particularly fears associated with sudden changes and uncontrollable circumstances. Tornadoes drop down from the sky—death from above—and that association connects them with fear of sudden death, war, or something that comes out of nowhere to upend your life or your psyche. See: Ufos
The buildup to a tornado coming (sirens, weather alerts) can symbolize a sense of doom or gloom. Something you dread is coming. It can be specific—for example, a big test or confrontation—or general, such as fears and phobias. It can mean that you sense a crisis coming, or something big.
Dreams can use associations with tornadoes such as how people tend to reveal their true thoughts and feelings during disasters.
Flouting the danger of a tornado can symbolize ignoring a danger or warning, such as the danger of provoking someone or defying an authority figure, or of stirring up emotions you can’t control.
Seeking shelter from a tornado can be a way of saying you need a break. Tornadoes cause huge changes, a metaphor for how certain times of life can be.
Tornadoes cause insecurity and can pop up in dreams when you feel insecure. They’re unstoppable forces of nature.

Dreamt of someone before you met them?
I’ve dreamt of two diff people and then met them later on in life.
Both made a huge impact on my life.
The first one, oh mylanta (in my dream) we had a whirlwind love affair and we were so free and loved each other very much. Nothing mattered in the dream except us. I’ve never experienced anything like that irl. At the end of this dream I remember telling him goodbye in my grandparents back yard and I was surprised that I didn’t know his name. He wouldn’t tell me but he handed me a folded up sheet of notebook paper and I remembered reading his name. He had placed it in the top right corner like it was a school assignment back in the day when you used paper.
5-8 years later I met him.
Another time I had a dream I was getting out of bed and I was depressed and didn’t want to do anything except get back in bed. That’s when I saw this guy kneeling beside my bed motioning for me to swing my legs over so he could help me put on my shoes.
I documented this dream in 2014 bc it was short and weird af.
In 2016 I was having a tough time at my job and went to see a therapist and I was dx with ADHD.
It was the same mf that was helping me get my shoes on in my dream from two years earlier.

A tornado on fire
I’m having a hard time understanding the symbology in/of this dream.
I was visiting some friends that lived near my sister out in the country. (Which is weird cause she lives in Florida, not out in the country). I decided to go out on the porch to watch the stars, and saw a tornado in the distance...that was on fire? It was absolutely terrifying and drastically growing in size. It was heading right towards us. I run inside and alert my friends to what’s going on. They go outside to see and then we prepare to go down to their basement.
I call my sister and she says they’re fine and that the “tornado already passed by there” and then the phone cut out. (I was using a landline and the tornado had taken down some electrical poles). We all gathered downstairs in the basement, which had a bathroom. We got in the bathtub, pulled a mattress over the top of us and hoped the tornado would pass by the house.
The sound of it became increasingly louder. Then I realized the room was spinning, and we were being lifted out of the bathtub. I remember hearing the wood of the house splitting and snapping, and seeing nothing but a blur of the world around me. I literally *felt* my body being pulled by the tornado and it made me feel nauseous even upon waking up. I tried to stay awake in the dream, but I passed out from the fear, and that’s when I woke up.

i desperately need an interpretation
I woke up at six in the morning for some water, which is fine and dandy. Now its 7:54 and im just barely calmed down from the nightmare of a dream i just woke up from.
Before i begin, i must explain that my nana, lilli, and my mom mean the world to me. they are 3 of the few people i can actually trust.
The dream started with me and lilli driving. (neither of us have even a permit yet.) we turned onto a road that goes past one you would turn on to get to my grandmas. The one you would turn onto was completely flooded, and the water only got higher the further back you went. thats where the panic began. Thd further me and lilli drove, the worse the rain got. soon, we were in a shack in town, and waiting to see if the storms would just pass us over.
I look out of a window to see my nana and pa drive up, with my sister and brother in tow. i run outside, and their ford explorer becomes a bus. i explain to them that they cant go home because of how bad the flooding is throughout town, so pa takes us to a shack that a friend owns.
as a lover of the movie twister, i know that f5 tornados usually warrant deadly silence beforehand, and that you need to run or find something lodged far into the ground if you want to survive. even in my dream i realised this.
so as me and my nana, pa, sister, and brother ( plus the family who own it) sit in the shack, i notice how silent it got and raise alarm. we all pile into the giant truck of the owners, anf everythings fine until we stop for gas. my nana is missing, and my brother and sister. its then that it hits me i forgot lilli and mom back home, and i start screaming and crying at pa to tell me what he did, to which he stays silent.
i wish i could describe thd pain i felt in my chest when i began crying, but just know it was enough to wake me up to a soaked pillow and empty lungs.
i have no idea what it meant and i have no idea if i should raise alarm over it, but id like an interpretation please.
if this would be better posted in a different sub, please let me know so i can get an accurate interpretation.

Strange semi-recurring dream
31M, INFJ, heterosexual.
I have had this dream several times over the course of my life. It has been a different setting with different people each time, yet, I know it's the same dream.
It always starts with me being outside with someone who I don't recognize. It starts out with good weather, lots of yellows and greens, natural tones. The weather turns bad and it begins to storm heavily, shifting into greys and blues.
We somehow wind up inside a building with many other people. The first time I remember having this dream, we wound up in the church I was raised in with members of the congregation in there as well. One of them, familiar to me, was wearing the Santa suit he always wore for Christmas, but it wasn't Christmas.
Anyway, It always winds up that I see a tornado through a window. When I see this, nobody seems to know what to do, so I always wind up taking charge and directing people's actions. The most recent occurrence was last night. We were in the basement of a house that I didn't recognize. Nobody was taking action after I saw the tornado, so I started telling them to board up the windows and barricade the exterior basement door. I have no idea where the boards came from, they weren't down there to begin with, they just appeared and they were already the perfect size for the windows.
Everything, including the people in the room with me were in grey and blue tones. I'm not really sure what happened/happens after that, I usually wake up at this point.
If anyone has any ideas about what this could mean, I would love to hear it.
