What are possible meanings for dreams of rectangles?

When a dream draws attention to a four-sided object or structure, the symbolism can be based on the shape. Many aspects of the psyche are configured in groups of four, and a dream can use anything four-sided to show the configuration and structure of the psyche.

The trick with a rectangle is to see it as an elongated square, which in dream-speak can mean emphasized, overemphasized, or out of balance. Balance is shown in the square, so if a dream picks a rectangle instead to give you a peek behind the curtain separating your conscious mind from the rest of the psyche, there’s a reason for it.

The rectangle could symbolize the four primary mental functions of the psyche. If you see a rectangular configuration, the dream is showing something out of balance. For example, you can be overly rational at the expense of your feelings (meaning value-based judgment, not emotions). You can discount your intuition and overemphasize “just the facts.” See: Groups, General thinking

If the rectangle is a door or window and it’s the focus of the action or the dream-story, then the symbolism might not have anything to do with the shape. Doors and windows have their own symbolism. However, if none of the possibilities fits your dream, perhaps the door or window symbolism really is connected with its rectangular shape.

A rectangle connects with order and structure. Dreams use a physical representation for a personal situation connected with the order and structure of your life. Dreams use rectangles to create symbolism related to grounding yourself in the physical, material world, and a rectangle can show too little or too much grounding. Or, because rectangles make strong structures, a rectangle can show solidity and strength. You have created a secure life for yourself. You have a strong mind and internal integrity. Your house is built on a strong foundation.

The four sides of a rectangle can connect with the symbolism of number four and groups of four. Four is two 2s, two pairs, and it shows interrelated strength. In this way, the strength of the psyche is similar to the strength of anything else that’s well-constructed.

I had a really weird dream about worms inside me.

So I’ll get the worm one out of the way. So in the dream, i woke up from the nap I was taking and looked at my hands and noticed that there were worms in me. That’s right INSIDE of my wrist area. I went to the bathroom and started to try and dig through my skin to get the worm out. There was only one, it appeared but there was also 4 cobblestone looking rectangles aswell inside of my wrist. They weren’t important but I eventually cut my skin with my fingernail and grabbed the worms tail. The worms were white with even whiter tails. I pulled it out and discarded it (I threw it somewhere idk) and I saw there were MORE WORMS in me. I pulled up my phone and it had text that read something along the lines of: “this is very serious and should see a doctor”. I then looked at the mirror and whimpered my reflection. I contemplated showing my parents but decided against it. I started to try and get rid of more worms on my own. I tried to get one with the same method as the last one but failed and it crawled to the left of my back and it felt like it whipped me with its tail. I tried to get more out and I did. That’s all I can remember about the dream. If there is more I will edit it here. Does this dream mean anything? Or is it just a random nightmare.

Dream i had years ago about a book that doesn't exist

A few years ago i had a dream where i traveled through videogame and book worlds by walking through some portals, but the last one i visited before waking up was one called "The adventures of Gary Colin and Mr Ned".

It looked like this, a big rectangle with yellowish walls, and a river in the floor, walls and ceiling. There was a small shed, phone cabin, bench, bridge and a tree, pretty sure there were more things but i cant remember.

There were 2 guys, Gary Colin was a blonde teen, and Mr Ned looked like an 40 year old guy with a mustache.

I woke up right after this and have no clue who Gary Colin or Mr Ned is.

I dreamt that I was teleported into a world called "The Vortex." This is the second time I've had this dream.

Yesterday, I had a dream I was teleported into a world called "The Vortex." This was not the first time I had this dream. I first had it when I was little, like 5-6. It was somewhat different the second time, yet some things were the same. The first time, the only things I remember are having to go through levels. If you failed the level, you die. If you passed it, you had a small chance to be teleported out. (Aka, waking up.) I remember almost dying alot. You had a partner, and mine was around my age. She had short blonde hair and blue eyes. She was alot better than me at the levels, I wonder if that time was not her first time. I remember two specific levels. One was were we had to cross a lake. Some people were swimming, me and my partner used boats. Another one I remember is being in an empty classroom. I sat down in one of the desks. There was a chalkboard at the front. Written on it was "Blue + Crying hard = Red." Below was a blue rectangle beside a red square. I don't remember much more because it was so long ago. The second dream was last night, and I remember it more vividly. I remember standing on gray bridge like thing with poles on the sides so you wouldn't fall off. Surrounding was what appeared to be outer space. There was a gray door in front of me. Beside it, was a timer that said 1:00. The numbers were green. (This is an important detail.) It started counting down. When it hit 15 seconds, the numbers turned red. When it hit 0 seconds, the numbers turned green again and the timer restarted. I knew that in the 15 seconds the numbers were red, it was dangerous to go inside. When the timer restarted, I opened the door and ran across the hallway on the other side. I opened another door got teleported into another level. It was the weird level where you had to cross the lake. I met my partner in that level. Then I realized, my partner was the same little blonde girl, just older. We greeted each other and then went to grab our boats. When I grabbed my boat, I was teleported into the same classroom as last time. This time it wasn't empty. It wasn't full either, about half full. This is the weirdest part about my dream- you had to go to a specific desk. The way you tell which desk was yours was by a hand that was your skin tone. The hand didn't have fingers, just tiny hands replacing them. The tiny hands wiggled like worms. I sat down at my desk. The teacher was a little black boy, around 7-8. On the board were the same words. "Blue + Crying Hard = Red." It even had the blue rectangle and the red square. I looked beside me, and there was a older black man in his 60s sitting in the desk beside me. I talked to him. "How do I get out of The Vortex?" I asked. (This is how I learned what the world was called.) "Is it your fourth time here?" He asked back. "It's my second time." I responded. Then my dad screamed and woke me up. I'm mad about that, I had so many questions I wanted to ask him. So, that's my weird dream experience. Does anyone know what this means?

A large megabuilding and a violent storm.

This took place in some kind of megastructure. One building that functions as a city. Dorms, recreation areas, food stands and restaurants. Some parts of this structure has dark hallways that lead to rooms with dim lights, dark carpets, and untouched vintage furniture. Other than these mysterious rooms the structure was inhabited by many people.

Throughout the dream I was exploring these more hidden and sketchy rooms stealing medicine and what I can guess to be some kind of hallucinogenic drug that was in high demand for many residents that prevented a corrosive illness from taking their lives. The structure was monitored by humans probably double the size of normal ones and acted as custodians but also ensures nobody enters the sketchy rooms.

I manage to get outside the massive structure but there was a thick fog and strong storm stopping me from seeing what exactly is outside with me. The custodians were many out here and I decided to not linger too long. People were being unloaded in these steel transports that had no features other than the shape of a large rectangle.

My mind slowly gets foggy after seeing that and I essentially fall apart into emptiness. I wake up a little after.

Suicidal Ideation Dream

I had a dream that I had purchased two gifts for my mom. Each was packaged in a rectangle box, one pink and one gray. At the bottom in each box in small letters and correct font, each box said "Nordstrom". I extended my wrists on the table in front of me and thought to myself, "You know what you have to do", which was to kill myself. Then my alarm went off and I woke up, ending the dream.

For reference, I had a terrible relationship with my mother - she was a narcissistic drug addict and I was codependent. I didn't speak with her for 2 years before she died.

Any insight would be appreciated.
